Diet & Weight-Loss FAQ
Are your diets only for weight loss or weight gain?
At the Rezaee Diet clinic, diet therapy covers the following in addition to lasting weight loss and weight gain:
- Diet therapy at different stages of life (childhood–adolescence, pregnancy–breastfeeding, older adults)
- Diet therapy for athletes
- Diet therapy for various diseases: diabetes, high blood pressure, fatty liver, anemias, hormonal diseases including thyroid disorders, digestive, heart, kidney and lung diseases, rheumatism and autoimmune diseases, cancers and more
What are the characteristics of a principled diet?
- Suited to the person's life circumstances and easy to follow
- Flexible and matched to personal tastes
- No hunger or weakness
- No side effects such as hair loss and digestive problems
- No elimination of any food or meal
Can I have my favorite foods on your diet?
Yes. By observing the recommended frequency for each food, you can enjoy your diet.
How can we lose ten kilos in one month?
Losing ten kilos a month takes no skill. With all kinds of undereating, wrong single-food diets and fake diets that cause water loss and muscle wasting, you can lose ten kilos in a month, but you can't make up for the regret of the aftermath at the same speed!
How many kilos a month is good to lose?
It depends on your circumstances: the amount of excess weight, age, sex, amount of fat and muscle tissue, underlying diseases, and any history of weight fluctuation and regain. In general, losing 2 to 4 kilos a month is appropriate in most cases.
Why don't I lose weight even though I eat very little?
Simply eating few calories is not the criterion for weight loss. When our food intake drops below 1,000 calories a day, metabolism gradually slows and the body supplies energy by wasting muscle. You also become prone to complications such as hair loss, sagging and wrinkled skin, and depression. So we advise you, before you suffer the consequences of wrong undereating, to take action for principled weight loss with the help of a nutrition specialist.
How do I keep my face from getting thin and my skin from deteriorating on a weight-loss diet?
If you follow a principled diet, not only will you not suffer complications such as sagging and wrinkled skin, but over time you can even correct past damage.
How can I lose weight with hypothyroidism?
Hypothyroidism does not conflict with successful, principled weight loss. If, alongside a principled meal plan, you do regular physical activity suited to your ability, you will certainly reach your ideal weight.
How do I stabilize my weight loss so it doesn't come back?
When you follow a principled meal plan suited to your life circumstances during weight loss, you are not like a spring you have been struggling to hold down that suddenly lets go out of exhaustion!
After reaching your ideal weight, a weight-maintenance eating pattern helps you control fluctuations and stay stable for good.
Do I have a weight-loss plateau?
If, despite following a suitable meal plan well and doing physical activity, you lose less than one kilo over three months, it counts as a weight-loss plateau.
How do we prevent a weight-loss plateau?
Follow a principled meal plan. Calorie adjustment and the balance among protein, carbohydrate and fat sources are set in your diet by the nutrition specialist.
- At the same time, do physical activity suited to your physical condition.
- Don't forget to drink enough fluids.
- Manage stress and negative thoughts.
- Correct diet myths and get information only from reliable academic sources and people with qualifications in nutrition and diet therapy, so that you don't suffer from the consequences of wrong diets such as a weight plateau.
Is there a pill or drug that burns fat in the body?
So far, in the 21st century, no fat-burning drug has been invented! Medications on the market can help reduce appetite and raise metabolism somewhat. All kinds of drugs and supplements can only help the weight-loss process in the short term.
What is cellulite or “orange-peel skin”, and how do we get rid of it?
Cellulite is the orange-peel appearance of the skin that develops in areas of the body where local blood flow has been reduced for a long time, such as the thighs and buttocks.
Regular physical activity and avoiding prolonged sitting help prevent cellulite. Diet and exercise do not cure cellulite. To get rid of cellulite, local methods such as the cavitation device are very effective.
What should we do about localized fat?
First, a physician should determine the method suited to your circumstances. Non-invasive localized slimming with devices is one of the best lasting solutions without side effects. At the Rezaee Diet clinic, localized slimming is done using RF and cavitation devices.
How effective are the devices?
The results from the device depend on two aspects. One is hereditary factors and physiological conditions; the controllable aspect is a low-fat diet, activity and following a few tips while using RF and cavitation. A size reduction of 5 to 20 centimeters, plus lifting in areas with sagging, will be visible. The mechanism of these methods is also apoptosis, the programmed death of fat cells, which makes the results last better and prevents the removed fat tissue from coming back.
Which localized slimming method is right for me?
Choosing the right localized slimming method differs from person to person. If your BMI is under 30 and you have none of the conditions that rule out the devices, such as a pacemaker or a metal plate or implant in the treatment area, non-invasive methods are recommended. RF and cavitation devices, using radiofrequency and ultrasound waves, bring you size reduction, reshaping and lasting lifting.
Why is obesity in women more often pear-shaped?
The pear-shaped pattern in women is mostly physiological, due to the type and structure of fat tissue and to reproduction. If you want to shape only one part of your body, you can use non-invasive localized slimming devices. To see examples of device use, see our Instagram page.
Does fasting or a fasting diet help weight loss?
A fasting diet can help with weight loss in short periods, depending on individual circumstances, but it is not recommended in the long term or as the only method of weight loss.
Is skipping breakfast effective for weight loss?
Skipping any meal leads to weight loss in the short term because daily calorie intake falls, but in the long term it leads to slower metabolism, slower weight loss, general weakness and weight regain.
What effect does drinking water have on weight loss?
More than 60 percent of an adult's body weight is water. The body needs water for all its physiological functions. In the weight-loss process too, supplying the body's fluids is essential for improving the speed of weight loss.
Which exercises are recommended for weight loss?
Exercise that is “regular”, “consistent” and “suited to the person's physical condition” gives the best results. A combination of aerobic and resistance activities is recommended for better weight loss and for strengthening muscles.
Are digestive problems one of the causes of obesity?
Failing to treat and follow up digestive problems may affect food intake. Losing weight despite digestive problems such as constipation, bloating, ulcers, bowel problems and so on is not in conflict; on the contrary, principled diet therapy helps the medication process.
What should we eat to lose weight?
Everything! Every food is allowed in your diet in the right amount and at the right frequency. Also, there is no slimming food, nor even a fattening food. If there were, nobody would be fat or thin! Please correct this wrong belief. Every food affects us over the long term as part of our overall eating pattern.
Does avoiding starch and not eating rice make you slim?
As we said, eliminating any food is unnecessary for weight loss. Keeping balance in your meal plan helps you not get tired of your diet and get more lasting results. Eliminating the grain group can lead to deficiency of B vitamins.
Does celery juice make you slim?
There is no slimming or fattening food! (Lord, give me patience)
If there were, no one would be fat or thin! The sum of our eating patterns over the long term brings lasting fitness, not, for example, reduced appetite and stomach volume from drinking celery juice, which won't always be sustainable.
What do you think of various diets such as the Canadian diet, the Atkins/keto diet and vegetarianism?
Some diets, like the Canadian and Atkins, produce weight loss only in the short term, with a higher chance of regain and many side effects. Others, like ketogenic and vegetarian diets, have a therapeutic aspect and so are not necessarily for weight loss. The keto diet is a treatment diet for epilepsy and is a high-fat diet with severe restriction of carbohydrates and proteins. It is very hard to follow, so it has low sustainability in the long term and may have complications such as kidney stones and more.
How can I lose weight by exercising without changing my diet?
Think of daily calorie intake and calorie expenditure as two separate pans of a scale. By increasing daily physical activity and exercise you can raise calorie expenditure, which leads to weight loss. But if you don't control the intake pan, don't care about it, or even keep it as before, you won't reach your desired weight. One hand alone can't clap. Both exercise and a meal plan together bring you closer to the results you want, and lasting ones.
Do I have to stop eating fast food to reach my desired weight?
No. You can reduce how often you eat it to once a month, preferably healthy homemade fast food.
What are healthy snacks?
All kinds of fruits, vegetables, nuts, low-fat dairy, and low-calorie grain foods such as dry crispbread, whole-bran biscuits, corn, plain corn puffs, roasted chickpeas and more.
Since eating salad is recommended for healthy nutrition and weight regulation, what can we use on salad instead of fatty sauces such as mayonnaise?
Lemon juice, verjuice (sour grape juice), pomegranate seeds, balsamic vinegar, low-fat strained yogurt
Given that milk and dairy are beneficial, is eating ice cream fine for someone who is overweight?
Most of the calories in ice cream come from carbohydrate rather than dairy, so it counts as a simple sugar. If it has a chocolate coating it will have even more calories. But eating it is fine if you stick to the recommended frequency.
What oil should we use to cook family meals so it doesn't cause problems for overweight members?
The calories of all oils are the same, so each teaspoon of any oil has 45 kilocalories. But suitable oils include olive, sesame, grapeseed, rice bran and canola.
Is there a special diet for people with depression?
Not a separate, different diet, but eating patterns certainly matter, including adequate antioxidants and vitamins and limiting processed foods and fast food.
Are the benefits of fruit juice the same as those of fruit?
Even in homemade juices, the fiber and part of the minerals are removed, so regular consumption is not recommended. Fruit fiber improves satiety, but the sugar and calories of juice are much higher.
Is taking multivitamins and supplements on your own without a doctor's advice harmful?
Yes. Especially fat-soluble vitamins, which can be toxic. If you are not ill, adequate intake from the different food groups guarantees your body's health and no extra intake is needed.
Is there a special diet for reducing and treating migraine attacks?
Recent studies show that the DASH diet, usually used for high blood pressure, can help reduce the severity and duration of migraine headaches. In general, increasing adequate fluids, fresh fruits and vegetables, nuts, olives and legumes is recommended, along with limiting fried foods, simple sugars, caffeine sources and nitrates.
